A Theoretical and Practical Course in Diabetes Education and Management
IDET is part of ICLDC’s education series offered as part of its commitment to contribute to the entire healthcare system in Abu Dhabi, and to promote knowledge transfer in endocrinology, diabetes management and advanced medicine for healthcare professionals across the emirates.

Course Description
Imperial Diabetes Educator Training (IDET) offered by Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC) is a multidisciplinary course designed to train health professionals in the area of diabetes education and management. The course is open to nurses, dieticians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals with current practice licences. Over the duration of the course, students will learn about chronic disease self-management education, applied biological and behavioural sciences, the principles of teaching and learning, and best practice in the management of diabetes.
During the course, theory modules will be complemented by experiential learning. Hands-on clinical attachments (CAs) allow students to observe diabetes cases alongside ICLDC physicians, dieticians and educators to improve students’ competencies in diabetes-related clinical care.

To advance diabetes education and patient healthcare by enhancing awareness and knowledge of diabetes risks, complications and therapies enabling efficacious disease prevention and management strategies.

IDET Mission
Train a competent and professional new generation of diabetes educators and diabetes knowledge seekers to better inform and teach diabetes patients and their carers on how to take charge of their condition.
Increasing the number of trained Diabetes Educators capable of providing expert advice on diabetes management, improving patient quality of life and ultimately preventing and delaying diabetes-related complications.
In an interactive learning environment, provide a platform for elucidating and combating the various factors contributing to obesity and sedentary lifestyles currently fuelling diabetes in the UAE and the region.
Raise awareness and promote diabetes testing to decrease the number of people in the UAE living with undiagnosed diabetes.
